Leap Year Leap – Into the Creek
February 29, 2020 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Kick off Leap Year by kicking off your shoes as you join us for a dip in the icy creek. This will be a wading depth experience so shirts and shorts are fine. Wear a swimsuit if you want to sit in the water on a beach chair or baptize yourself in a full immersion. The water is fairly shallow. Participants are free to do a super quick in-and-out, or hang out for a few minutes or more. We anticipate everyone back inside in front of a cozy fire within about ten minutes.
We will be explaining and trying out the breathing and concentration techniques of Wim Hof (pictured above), who is in the Guinness Book of World Records for swimming under ice and prolonged full-body contact with ice. He holds the record for a barefoot half-marathon on ice and snow. He attributes these feats to his Wim Hof Method (WHM), a combination of frequent cold exposure, breathing techniques and meditation. He has hiked up Mt. Kilamanjaro in his shorts, and regularly hikes in the snow wearing only shorts. More about Wim Hof is here: https://www.wimhofmethod.com/
Sandals and towels will be provided, but bring a robe and dry change of clothing. Water shoes, if you have your own, are also optional. Showers, hot chocolate and snacks available immediately after the dip.
